Luca is led through ambush after an ambush in the forests surrounding the castle. Luca attacks the castle in which the protagonist's army is stationed. The final battle with Luca, however, is one of the greatest scenes in gaming history in my opinion. It’s best to avoid him until you have a flanking manoeuvre ready, similarly to the old “Do not pursue Lu Bu” trick from the Dynasty Warriors series. In the strategy section, Lucas unit is almost unbeatable, able to cleave straight through your units in a single devastating charge. In Suikoden 2, there is both a turn-based Fire-Emblem- esque strategy portion as well as your typical turn-based JRPG combat. Translating into gameplay, Luca is fought on a few occasions throughout the game. ![]() Jillia reminded Luca of his mother, and therefore she was the only person he treated with a modicum of kindness. This trauma would follow him throughout his life as his mother gave birth to his sister Jillia as a result of the assault. Luca's hate festered in his youth until it manifested in his frightening strength and sadistic behaviour. This hatred eventually evolves into a hatred for humanity in general. Because of this, he harboured a deep hatred for Muse, the people who sent the bandits, as well as his cowardly father who never even sent help. Later Luca learned that these bandits were hired to attack his family. "A sword doesn't need a fine lineage, it just needs to be sharp." Luca was forced to watch his mother being both physically and sexually assaulted while being powerless to do anything. Luca's father fled in terror, leaving his young son and wife in the hands of these bandits. When Luca was young, he and his parents were attacked. However, what makes Luca so interesting as a character is the events that led to him becoming who he is. As far as antagonists go, you would be hard pressed to find someone as evil as this guy. He massacres those who stand in his way, and sometimes even those who don’t. He seems to have no sense of empathy or remorse. Assuming the throne for himself, Luca cuts a path through everyone he comes across that attempts to resist, even managing to rout the player's army with ease, making you feel as week as Luca thinks you are as he mocks and belittles you. Having poisoned the blood of a warrior undergoing a ritual in which his blood is added to wine, Luca gloats over his dying father, boasting about how long he’s waited for this moment. Luca continues his malicious path by plotting to assassinate his own father in order to both take revenge and usurp the throne. This prompts Luca to cackle maniacally and cut her down in the mud. ![]() Laughing, Luca promises to spare her if she speaks and makes pig noises. As the player watches on in horror, Luca forces a terrified woman to crawl on the ground on all fours. The protagonist arrives back in time to witness Luca at the peak of his sadistic massacre. A noteworthy scene from the earlier stages of Suikoden 2 sees Luca attacking the village of Ryube. He gleefully massacres peasants and villagers, revelling in their suffering as he watches them beg for mercy in the light emitting from the flames of their burning homes.Įach scene (except perhaps one we’ll get into a little later) is designed to make the player despise this psychopath. Luca seems to be swayed to action more to quench his own bloodlust than any sort of military or tactical advantage. To begin, let’s talk a little bit about Luca’s motivations and actions throughout the story of Suikoden 2.
